The Hit List - Best Brunch Locations

Places to spend a lazy weekend for every budget

The most enviable people in the world (after Bill Gates, private bankers, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's personal assistant that is) are probably the people you see lounging around the cafes along Orchard Road late on a weekday morning. Having brunch. Ah, the peachy life of the rich and idle!

For the rest of us less fortunate and riches-deprived folk, brunches are what truly defines a perfect Sunday - great food, good friends, and the last blissful 12 hours of a work- and worry-free day before yet another week of not idling around having brunch on a weekday.

And we believe everyone should get to properly enjoy this particular meal of the day, so here's our pick of the best places to enjoy one of life's little luxuries! Whether it's a relaxing spot to chill out with friends, or a posh champagne brunch to spend with the family you're looking for, there's something for every budget and palate.

1. Rider's Cafe

While it's obviously not the most accessible or convenient location unless you have a car, we promise your traveling efforts would not be in vain. Set in the picturesque Bukit Timah Saddle Club surrounded by lush greenery, Rider's Cafe could not possibly be less Singaporean even if it tried - the perfect weekend location to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life. The menu is small but handled with much panache. In particular, the pancakes, light and fluffy, with light-as-air whipped cream and tangy blueberry sauce is a firm favourite. We'll gladly travel for this.

2. Hatched

If your idea of a perfect Sunday brunch location is somewhere where you can head to after you literally roll out of bed, Hatched would be your friendly neighbourhood joint choice. Not quite Tampines-neighbourhood as it is Bukit-Timah-neighbourhood of course, considering its location. But the eatery, though on the slightly smaller side, oozes so much charm and cheerful vibes that it feels as welcoming as your friendly kopitiam, just with eggs benedict and pancakes instead of fried bee hoon. Just as its name suggests, eggs are Hatched's specialty, and the Sir Benedict, featuring the unbeatable combination of eggs benedict (yolk perfectly runny) and bacon topped with buttery hollandaise sauce is the stuff you would get out of bed for.

3. Wild Honey

One of the rare few places in town (in fact, they are the only one!) that serves breakfast all-day, Wild Honey has our stamp of approval simply for that reason. Of course, the reasons for repeat visits go far beyond just that. The Tunisian, for starters, is a delightful meal with sunny-side-up eggs in a tomato stew and so tasty you'll find yourself mopping up every last drop with the brioche. The egg dishes on offer are grouped by country of origin (Italian, Tunisian, Yemen), and short of hopping on board a plane and flying off to the various countries, this is about as close to authenticity as you're going to get in Singapore.
