It was a grand opening worthy of Haute Couture Week. The inaugural Women's Fashion Week 2011, which presented a 5-day fashion extravaganza of haute couture -- a first in the world outside of homeground Paris -- kicked off with a stylish bang last Wednesday, 26 October 2011, with an opening charity gala as well as the Asian Couture Showcase at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre.
And naturally, no expenses were spared when it came to celebrating the very best and most exclusive of high fashion. Guests, from ambassadors, dignitaries, prominent social personalities to local celebrities, as well as six of the eight couturiers, Maxime Simoens, Gustavo Lins, Stephane Rolland, Eymeric Francois, Alexis Mabille and Christophe Josse, were treated to a 4-course dinner and performances throughout the night, all set amidst a magical seasonal garden.
The night then came to a close with WFW2011 Presents: Asian Couture Showcase, which presented the designs of local couture designers Thomas Wee, Ashley Isham and Frederick Lee to much appreciative applause from the guests.
