You’re invited to the most epic pizza party of the season

For those who love pizza — and let’s face it, who doesn’t? — prepare yourself for some  extremely tasty pies: One of our favourite Italian restaurants, Mercato, is hosting an epic pizza party this season, and you’re all invited to chow down on the feast. Featuring five of Hong Kong’s top chefs and five media personalities (including our very own Editor in Chief), “The Great Pizza Bake Off” pits chefs against critics in the ultimate showdown, with a total of 10 original pizza recipes starring on the menu from 21 August to 6 November.

The Great Pizza Bake Off
These top chefs and media personnels are going head-to-head in an epic pie-slinging competition. Not pictured: our globetrotting Editor in Chief, Michael Alan Connelly.

Each round will last two weeks and feature one chef and one member of the media, with their original recipes going head to head to see which one is more popular with customers. With all pizzas priced at HK$180–$300 — and made with an exciting mix of top produce and surprising ingredients — this is your chance to see what Hong Kong’s top chefs and food experts are made of.

The Great Pizza Bake Off
Chef Anthony Burd of Mercato and chef May Chow of Little Bao are primed to bring their pizza A-game.

All pizzas will be fired up in Mercato’s authentic wood-fired oven and feature the restaurant’s signature rustic, perfectly crispy and chewy pizza crust, completed with a variety of fresh, premium toppings. From Italian staples such as pancetta and Parmigiano-Reggiano to ingredients that hit closer to home (think salted duck-egg cream, char siu and pickled chilli), there are no limits to the creative flavours that will soon coming out of Mercato’s kitchen.

It’s all in the name of fun and games (and an excuse to gorge on carbs), but if you want to see your favourite chef or critic take the title of best pizzaiolo in town — naturally, we’ll be supporting Editor in Chief Michael Alan Connelly — make sure you get down to Mercato during the following dates:
