The highly anticipated Kerry Hotel, Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts’ fourth Hong Kong property, will welcome its first guests on 28 April. Located right on Victoria Harbour, this sprawling, 16-storey urban resort is the first hotel to open on the Kowloon waterfront since 1995, a significant development for both the area of Hung Hom and the luxury-hotel landscape in Hong Kong.
The Kerry Hotel brand was first launched in Shanghai in 2011, with a focus on family, lifestyle, and curated “inspirational experiences” — a pursuit the Hong Kong property will follow closely with its combination of outdoor green spaces, diverse mix of dining options, and family and kids activities combining to create the ultimate urban resort experience for visitors to Hong Kong.
Designed by architect and interior designer Andre Fu, the first impression one has when walking through the lobby is of natural daylight flooding the multilevel atrium and lobby lounge, filtering through a magnificent, 80-metre-wide glass façade. Outside, meticulously landscaped gardens frame public walkways, allowing for pleasant strolls around the hotel grounds. For art lovers, the hotel is peppered with more than 1,000 art pieces, many of which were specially commissioned to fit in seamlessly with the design of the property.
The hotel’s layout takes full advantage of its proximity to the waterfront, with more than half of the 546 guestrooms featuring views of Victoria Harbour and the Hong Kong skyline. Luxury rooms are fitted with state-of-the-art amenities including a custom-built open closet, high-speed Wi-Fi with free videos on demand, bespoke lighting, and complimentary mini-bar choices on arrival. Meanwhile, Club guests can enjoy their own personalised service and amenities: daily breakfast and evening cocktails and canapés served in the Club Lounge, late check-out, and perks such as complimentary shoeshine on arrival.
Five F&B outlets serve up world-class food and drinks, with all venues offering outdoor terraces for relaxing al fresco dining. Big Bay Café is the all-day dining restaurant, outfitted in a natural colour palette of dark and light woods, with ceiling fans recreating the airy vibes of tropical resorts. Live cooking stations will serve up everything from BBQ seafood and meat to Southeast Asian noodle bowls, with guests encouraged to enjoy their lunch out on the large terrace.
For Cantonese cuisine, head to Hung Tong, a classic Chinese restaurant with décor inspired by the 19th-century shipyards that used to populate the Hung Hom waterfront. Specialties here include dim sum, noodles, congee and Cantonese-style roast meats. Meanwhile, Dockyard is a family-friendly restaurant with nine distinct kitchens serving up a spectrum of international cuisine, plus live entertainment every night, including dance performances and children’s shows.
For an afternoon sundowner, grab a drink with a side of sea views at Red Sugar, a comfy bar and lounge comprised of comfy leather armchairs, brick walls, and exposed lighting for an intimate and rustic feel. On warm evenings, guests can wander out to the 270-degree wraparound terrace to enjoy sweeping views of Hong Kong’s skyline with live music, and an array of Asian snacks and craft cocktails.
Health and fitness is a core philosophy of Kerry properties, and thus the Hong Kong property is outfitted with a 24/7 “Base Camp”, a fitness compound which includes a state-of-the-art gym, 25-metre outdoor infinity pool, steam and sauna facilities, and a variety of activities including personal training and an outdoor running club.
The facilities for meetings and events are equally impressive: The Grand Ballroom is the city’s largest pillar-less ballroom at 1,756 square metres, with the capacity to accommodate over 1,000 guests for a banquet or conference. The venue also features Hong Kong’s largest LED wall, and state-of-the-art video and sound system. The Hung Hom Ballroom is available for smaller events, covering 1,125 square metres, with hand-painted wall-coverings applied with an artisanal gold patina.
The hotel also features 16 other multifunction rooms as well as a range of indoor and outdoor event spaces, while a dedicated events management team is on hand to help guests plan everything from their dream wedding to corporate team-building events.
